Bikur Cholim of Lakewood, New Jersey is sending food for the Sabbath...

Trailblazing plans were already underway in New Jersey to organize massive blood drives at outdoor testing sites, which involved setting up patient registration, mobile phlebotomy, centrifuge, and shipment of specimens.

Bikur Cholim, a Lakewood-based charity named for the Jewish commandment to give aid to the sick, has partnered with restaurants to bring meals to doctors, nurses and other hospital staff during the pandemic.

Thanks to a coalition of organizations operating in different Orthodox communities, hundreds of plasma donors are taking up chairs in blood banks as far away as Delaware. They are motivated by the hope that their efforts will spare others an anguish they know all too well.

With the recognition by the medical community that recovered COVID-19 patient blood plasma can save lives, Hatzalah of Michigan is collaborating with the Mayo Clinic, Lev Roche, Bikur Cholim of Lakewood, New Jersey, and other Hatzalah organizations nationwide to offer COVID-19 IGG antibody testing

Jewish communities in Baltimore, Md. and Lakewood, N.J. have been traveling to Delaware to donate blood plasma to help in the fight against COVID-19.

In this midst of this bleak time that will be forever known as the Coronavirus pandemic, hope has sprung from something called convalescent plasma. And, arguably, no one has personified that hope better than the Orthodox Jewish community of Lakewood, New Jersey.

One Saturday in mid-April, a group of Orthodox Jewish leaders held a conference call with a Minnesota doctor as they grappled with spiking coronavirus cases in their New York area communities.
